SS1H1.b Describe how everyday life of these historical figures is similar to and different from everyday life in the present (food, clothing, homes, transportation, communication, recreation). During our science/social studies Friday this week, your child will be diving into understanding Character Traits and what they are. We will be going over:
-respect for environment -courage -equality -tolerance -fairness -perseverance -commitment We will discuss the meaning of these words, but also connect them to world using read alouds and examples of how these traits are found in the world around us. This week, your child we be reviewing quarter 2 standards and will be assessed for the report card.
This week in science, your child will investigate magnets! More details about this are listed in the standards below.
Standards: S1P2Students will demonstrate effects of magnets on other magnets and other objects. S1P2.aDemonstrate how magnets attract and repel. S1P2.bIdentify common objects that are attracted to a magnet. S1P2.cIdentify objects and materials (air, water, wood, paper, your hand, etc.) that do not block magnetic force. This week in science, your child will investigate sound! They will be learning about what sound is and how vibrations produce sound. They will also learn about different types of pitch and the volume of sound.
Standards: S1P1 Students will investigate light and sound. S1P1.c Investigate how vibrations produce sound. S1P1.d Differentiate between various sounds in terms of (pitch) high or low and (volume) loud or soft. S1P1.e Identify emergency sounds and sounds that help us stay safe. This week in social studies, your child will continue to learn Thomas Jefferson! Some things that will be discussed will be his influence, contributions, and character traits. Students will work on a variety of activities in order to learn more about him and why he is an influential person of our past!
